Traveling With Your Pet, Made Easy
Traveling with your pet can be an exciting adventure, and we’re here to help ensure everything goes smoothly. If you plan to bring your pet across state lines, please let us know in advance. While travel certificates are generally required for pets traveling by air, they may not be necessary for automobile travel between states.
Acquiring Health & Travel Certificates
At TotalBond Veterinary Hospital at Paw Creek, we’re happy to assist with providing travel certificates for your pet’s interstate travel. However, please note that our clinic is not authorized to issue international or USDA-accredited health certificates for travel outside the country. If you're planning international travel, we recommend reaching out to a USDA-accredited veterinarian for the necessary paperwork.
To help ensure your pet can travel with ease, we make sure that they meet the required health guidelines before issuing a travel certificate. Your pet will need to be:
- Healthy and emotionally stable to travel safely
- Vaccinated according to the guidelines for your travel destination
- Free from disease
It’s important to check with your airline and destination to confirm any additional requirements, such as specific vaccinations or testing, that may be needed for your pet. We encourage you to connect directly with your airline to ensure you're meeting all necessary travel documentation and health requirements.
Planning Ahead for Your Travel Certificate Appointment
We recommend scheduling your appointment for a travel certificate well in advance of your flight, as you’ll want to allow time for processing. Most airlines require certificates to be issued within 10 days of departure, though this timeframe can vary by carrier. Booking early will help ensure you have everything in place on time.
Comfort and Safety Tips
To help reduce your pet’s stress while traveling, we suggest requesting that your pet fly with you in the airplane cabin, as this will be the most comfortable and reassuring for them. If your pet needs to fly in the cargo hold due to size restrictions, be sure to keep them well-hydrated and avoid traveling in extreme temperatures when possible.
