Comprehensive Exams for Lifelong Wellness
Aches, pains, and other discomforts are common for older pets. Here at TotalBond Veterinary Hospital at Paw Creek, it is our mission and duty to keep your senior pet happy and healthy. Routine senior monitoring includes diagnostics like bloodwork, urinalysis, digital radiology, ultrasound and glaucoma screening. We also recommend wellness check-ups every 6 months for all pets over 7 years of age.
Senior Pet Care
Early detection of illness is key for the best long-term results. The diagnostics described below along with routine exams provide the best opportunity for early detection of any condition that your pet may develop in his or her senior years.
- Bloodwork and Urinalysis: Also called a "minimum database", this is a starting point for almost any diagnostic workup. These tests give our doctors information on vital organ function, including kidneys, liver, thyroid and blood cell lines.
- Radiology and Ultrasound: not exclusive to each other, these imaging modalities often go hand-in-hand. Radiographs (x-rays) allow our doctors to see the outlines of vital structures across your pets body. Ultrasound allows a look inside the organs themselves.
- Glaucoma Screening: checking intraocular pressure allows our clinical team to quickly and easily identify glaucoma in your pet. Unfortunately, glaucoma can lead to blindness, so it is encouraged for all senior pets.
