Surgical procedures for pets can sometimes be a major concern for their owners. Here at TotalBond Veterinary Hospital at Paw Creek, we understand this concern and want to work with you to make sure that you feel comfortable and informed about the safety and health of your pet. Our experienced vet team provides compassionate pet surgery services in Charlotte, prioritizing your pet’s safety and well-being throughout the entire process. We will communicate with you every step of the way, before, during, and after the surgery.

Spay/Neuter Procedure

The spay/neuter procedure poses many health benefits for your pet and is something that we recommend for the vast majority of patients we see. Spaying is the removal of the uterus and ovaries from female pets, and neutering is the removal of the testes from male pets.

Our team of trained technicians and experienced veterinarians at TotalBond Veterinary Hospital at Paw Creek follow a strict code of conduct when completing such procedures, and do extensive background work to ensure that your pet is as comfortable and safe as possible before, during, and after the procedure. All pets are placed under general anesthesia during the procedure.

Why Should I Have My Pet Spayed/ Neutered?

General & Advanced Pet Surgery

Before Surgery

We will schedule a visit with you before the surgical procedure to discuss the nature of the surgery, potential options, cost, and answer any questions that you may have. As an owner, it’s important to stay informed and up to date with your pet’s health status, which is why we are here for anything you may need. Be sure to come prepared with any concerns or questions.

During Surgery

One of our trained technicians will be closely monitoring your pet’s vitals to ensure that the procedure is running smoothly. This staff member will actively ensure that your pet will experience minimal discomfort after the surgery and can discuss recovery methods with you.

After Surgery

Directly after the surgery we continue to monitor your pet’s vitals until we feel they are safe to be picked up and taken home. Once home, it is important to follow the necessary recovery protocol. The process of recovery and healing is equally important to the physical surgery itself. We will discuss the necessary recovery protocols with you before the surgery, and will check in after the surgery as well.

CONSULT

This is the first step in the full arch process. During this appointment, you will meet with your Dr. Kurt O. Bally DMD FICOI to discuss your needs and options for dental implants. The consultation will typically take about an hour. This first and free visit is $525 value.

RECORDS

Your dentist will take a series of records, including dental x-rays, 3D scans, and photographs. These records will be used to create a treatment plan and to fabricate your dental implants.

PRE-SURGICAL CONSULT

This appointment is held before the surgery to discuss the risks and benefits of the procedure, as well as the recovery process. You will also have a chance to ask any questions you may have.

SURGERY

This is the procedure where the implants are placed into your jawbone. The surgery typically takes about 2 hours per jaw and is done safely with oral anesthesia. All patients leave with their new temporary teeth on the day of the surgery and will return within 1-2 weeks to have their first post-op visit and receive their fist implant prototype teeth. It is important to remain on a very soft diet after surgery and before receiving your first prototype.

PROTOTYPES

1-2 weeks after your surgery you will return to check your healing and receive your first set of implant prototype teeth that will be attached directly to your implants. We allow up to 3 versions of teeth during the healing process to ensure the dentist and patient is happy with the look and feel. As your implants heal your dentist will create a series of prototypes for your implant bridge. These prototypes will be used to test the fit and function of the bridge before it is permanently placed.

HEALING

The implants will need to heal for 4-6 months before the next step can be taken. Dr. Bally will also provide a night guard to help prevent excess pressure from going to your implants. As you heal you will remain on a soft diet.

PROTOTYPING AND VERIFICATION

Once the implants have healed, your dentist will create a final prototype of your dental bridge. This prototype will be verified to ensure that it is the correct size, shape, and color. Before authorizing the fabrication of your new zirconia implant smile.

DELIVERY

This is the appointment where your permanent dental bridge is placed. The procedure typically takes about 1 hour. It's a truly rewarding visit for everyone.

POST-DELIVERY CONSULT AND DOCUMENTATION

This appointment is held after your new zirconia implant smile is installed and your final night guard is given and instructions to maintain your smile are discussed. Final pictures, X-rays and video mark the end of your zirconia implant smile journey.

MAINTENANCE

Your zirconia implant smile will need to be maintained on a regular basis to ensure that it continues to function properly. This may include cleaning, adjustments, and checkups.
Soft Tissue Surgery – is any form of surgery that does not work on bones or joints. This includes cardiothoracic, gastrointestinal, respiratory, and urogenital procedures.

Orthopedic Surgery – includes several different types of bone, joint, and ligament surgeries for pets. Whenever a dog or cat has a broken bone or trauma that is not soft tissue related, it is usually treated with Orthopedic Surgery.
Please note that we will typically recommend referral to a specialist for orthopedic surgery.

Surgical Oncology – is a form of treatment for pets with cancer. This procedure involves the surgical removal of the cancerous mass to prevent it from spreading to other areas of the body. We are pleased to share that our peer, Dr. Mark Epstein at TotalBond Veterinary Hospital at Forestbrook, is experienced in the treatment of many common types of cancer including lymphoma, mast cell tumor, and osteosarcoma.
Mass Removal – If your pet appears to have abnormal bumps of their body, our medical staff will test to see if the mass is a cyst, hernia, or cancerous or benign tumor. Depending on the outcome we may recommend that the mass be removed. Regardless, we will continually monitor that area in case it becomes cancerous.
Gastrointestinal Procedures – are typically recommended for pets who experience gastrointestinal issues. Common signs that your pet is having such issues include bloating, diarrhea and weight loss.
Splenectomy Surgery – is the surgical removal of a pet’s spleen. This procedure is only recommended in the unlikely scenario in which all other treatments have not been effective. Also for the splenectomy, we use a ForceTriad™ Energy Platform, an advanced and full-featured electrosurgical system that greatly improves cauterization, which is a method of stopping bleeding. At this time, the ForceTriad system is available only at our Bethel location, and pets needing a splenectomy will likely be referred there for treatment.
Foreign Body Removal – is a procedure for pets that have ingested a foreign object that needs to be removed. This is typically more common for dogs than cats.
Laparoscopic Surgery – a minimally invasive form of surgery in which a small camera attached to a thin tube is inserted through the abdominal wall, allowing the doctor to view and perform the procedure with greater precision and smaller incisions. This type of surgery is offered exclusively at our Bethel location.
Laparoscopic Gastropexy Surgery – is similar to regular laparoscopy but instead much smaller incisions are made and it is minimally invasive.
