AAHA Accreditation
When you and your pet visit TotalBond Veterinary Hospital at Davidson, you should know that you’re visiting one of only 15% of veterinary hospitals that are accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association, the only organization that accredits veterinary practices in North America.
In simple terms, veterinary facilities can differ significantly in their approach to patient care. Unlike in human medicine, veterinarians have more flexibility in setting their own protocols and standards within their practice. The American Animal Hospital Association creates and maintains over 900 standards of pet care based on the most recent science and medical advances, and the hospitals that pursue accreditation by AAHA must meet these high standards. Our hospital must renew this accreditations regularly.

American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP)
Dr. Hay completed his ABVP Board-Certification in Canine & Feline Practice in 1999, and along with Dr. Epstein at our Forestbrook location, is one of the very few Board-Certified specialists practicing in the Charlotte area.
Dr. Hay’s Board Certification ensures that your pet is in the best and most experienced hands. The process of Board-Certification includes years of additional studies, education, and examinations.
By having multiple Board-Certified veterinarians at our TotalBond practices, we promote the highest level of quality care throughout our team. All of our veterinarians are encouraged to pursue Board Certification, and in the meantime, are learning from our specialists on a daily basis.
Fear Free Certification
We’ve often heard the feedback from clients that the most stressful part of a veterinary visit is seeing your pet become anxious. TotalBond Veterinary Hospital at Davidson doesn’t want this to be a barrier to your pet getting the important regular care they need to stay happy and healthy! In addition to a general love of showing our patients great affection, many of our team members have taken the additional step of becoming Fear Free Certified.
A Fear Free Certification is the culmination of a completely optional, highly-beneficial training program where veterinary professionals learn the latest strategies for interacting with pets to minimize fear and stress during veterinary visits. The program was developed by industry experts in pet behavior, pain management, animal training, grooming, boarding, and more. The training isn’t limited to just pets, either – we learn how to better communicate with pet owners, too!
Our team members can also make recommendations for at-home behaviors, tips, and tricks, to keep your pet calm and relaxed during any situation. Let us know how we can help!
Low Stress Handling Certification
Training in Low Stress Handling methods complements our staff’s Fear Free training. Low Stress Handling methods focus on ensuring a happier experience at the vet for every patient that we see, and should give you the peace of mind that we have gone above and beyond to learn skillful and professional handling methods while administering medical care.
At the core of this training is the goal that every pet feels safe during their visit with our team. Team members who have received this certification are better equipped to detect changes in your pet’s fear level and anxiety, create a calmer and more welcoming environment, and administer the movements that help your pet become more relaxed and secure.
Cat Friendly Practice Certification
At TotalBond Veterinary Hospital at Davidson, we are proud to be recognized as a Cat Friendly Practice by the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP). This certification reflects our commitment to providing the highest standard of care for your feline companions in a calm, comfortable environment.
Our team has completed specialized training in feline medicine and behavior, allowing us to deliver gentle, cat-centered care that minimizes stress during visits. As a Cat Friendly Practice, we have tailored our facility and procedures to meet the unique needs of cats. We understand that cats can experience heightened stress in a veterinary setting, and we are dedicated to ensuring that each visit is as stress-free as possible.
