More on Pet Dentistry
Problems with the teeth and gums can lead to significant pain, infection, and even serious systemic disease if bacteria enter the bloodstream. Even without systemic disease, dental pain can reduce appetite and quality of life.
At TotalBond Veterinary Hospital at Forestbrook, preventative dental care is recommended as part of routine veterinary exams. Pet owners are encouraged to bring pets in sooner if they notice signs like:
- Very bad breath
- Discolored or chipped teeth
- Red, swollen, or bleeding gums
- Excessive drooling
- Difficulty eating or chewing
- Pawing at the mouth or face

Dental Examinations
Dental Cleanings
When a dental cleaning is recommended, it typically involves a Complete Oral Radiology, Examination, and Treatment (“CORE-T”) procedure — a deeper, more comprehensive cleaning than a basic surface brushing. These are generally performed under general anesthesia, with the safety and comfort of your pet discussed based on their age and health.
Flat-rate pricing for dental cleanings includes:
- Pre-anesthetic bloodwork
- Safe general anesthesia
- Full-mouth exam and ultrasonic cleaning
- Digital dental X-rays
- Pain medications (if extractions are needed)
- Post-op monitoring and at-home care guidance
